When Quincy and John Stokes saw this 70s gem with a pool within walking distance to Grandview Beach in San Diego’s Leucadia community, they couldn’t resist.
A few years ago, they purchased a magical property in Silver Lake and hadn’t thought much about moving since. Then the pandemic hit and, as it did for many of us, inspired a desire for change.
San Diego’s Leucadia is a sought-after beach community on the north side of Encinitas. It “prides itself in being a little rougher around the edges than the rest of Enci, which is visible through its housing and commercial district. Apartments are aplenty, there’s an actual RV park, and the community rallies behind places like Surfy Surfy (a funky surf shop right next to Coffee Coffee), Lou’s Records, and the 454 Tattoo Shop.”
The Stoke’s new home at 1830 Eucalyptus Ave stands near the end of a tree-lined cul-de-sac. Set back from the street, mature succulents and tall grasses line the front yard, and a covered entry with a porch swing guides you toward the front door.
Inside, the floor plan is amenable to entertaining and privacy. Measuring 2,150 square feet, the living space has an open kitchen, living, and dining area looking out to the backyard, while all five bedrooms are located off a hallway.
Outside is a vast backyard with a beautiful pool and jacuzzi lined with flagstone, a grill, a lounge, dining, a manicured lawn, and entertaining areas.
The house is a beachy 70s gem near Grandview Beach and Batiquitos Lagoon. However, perhaps its best feature is that it’s located in a neighborhood that still feels like a “place you could leave your wetsuit out drying overnight without the fear of someone nicking it.”
