Our latest listing takes us to a quaint town located a few hours north of Los Angeles. Built in the mid-1960s, the two-story dwelling with a studio/in-law suite stands in Kernville, a small town in the Kern River Valley, located a few hours north of Los Angeles. From wilderness hiking to whitewater rafting, everything is within easy reach, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.

The House Tour

Clad in blue siding, the main residence opens to the living room with a floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace anchoring the space. A large window looks out to the front yard, framing the leafy scenery of the outdoors. Off the living room is the kitchen with a dining area that provides a spot for morning coffee and homemade meals. From here, you have direct access to the two-car garage.

All the bedrooms and bathrooms are off the hallway. A spacious family room with a Malm-style fireplace is located at the end of the hallway. This space opens to the backyard that awaits your green thumb.

There is potential rental income for the in-law unit/studio located above the garage. It features a separate entrance and combines a bedroom, kitchenette, and an area currently used as a sewing station, complete with bay windows that overlook the mountain tops.

The Kernville Neighborhood

The area was initially called Whiskey Flat. Every President’s Day weekend, “Kernville reverts to its old name, ‘Whiskey Flat’, for four nostalgic days of fun. Parade, Wild West Daze Rodeo, Wild West Encampment, Carnival Rides, Frog Jumping Contests, Whiskey Flat Mayor Contest, Food & Craft Booths, Epitaph, Costume & Whiskerino Contests, Line Dancing, Pet Parade, Blue Grass & Country Western Music, Art Show, Gunfighter Skits, Kids Activities, Games, & much more!”

Rich in Native American and Gold Rush history, “The present-day Kernville is a gateway to the Kern River Valley and the Giant Sequoia National Monument, offering various outdoor activities like whitewater rafting, kayaking, and hiking.” During the cooler months, a nearby day ski resort caters to both beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. A perk of owning this residence is access to Bubbles Beach. This area is only accessible to Riverkern property owners. You’re riverfront access to spend relaxing afternoons along the sandy banks of the mighty Kern River.
