An artsy couple gives life to a mid-century modern home in Silver Lake

The home of Richard Lassalle, a production designer for the film industry, and Shiho Amano, a potter and painter, is a testament to their artistry and taste. Richard believes, “Great design is all about the space between light and dark. Light defines the spaces. What we’ve done here is create a space that makes use of the natural light and the house’s position to elevate the interior. Now for sale, the couple shares how they turned this unassuming mid-century modern home into a space that everyone who enters feels at home.
Completed in 1958, the house’s unassuming façade gave subtle clues of its late mid-century origins. Despite the choppy floor plan, ill-placed walls, and massive awnings that obscured the view, Richard and Shiho knew the home had potential.
