Heart-eye inducing bungalow owned by founders of Hawkins New York

Claire and her fiancé Scott scored a light-filled residence in Highland Park owned by the founders of Hawkins, New York.

The light was the first thing to grab Claire and Scott’s attention. Lined with original double-hung windows, the open living room, dining area, and kitchen face south, taking full advantage of the all-day sunshine and the surrounding city views.

After the light came the kitchen. Scott is passionate about continuously honing his culinary skills, and Claire often helps him prep. “We like to cook. The kitchen in our rental is small and doesn’t have much counter space, so we often bump into each other.” The U-shaped kitchen with stainless steel appliances is open to the living room and dining area. There’s lots of counter space, storage, and access to a deck for al fresco dining. Plus, a perfectly placed window above the kitchen sink captures great sunset views.

The décor cannot go unmentioned. Then owners Paul Denoly and Nick Blaine of Hawkins New York — a brand known for its unique balance of modernity and warmth — kept the space pared down and clutter-free while adding warmth and soul via super-saturated mustard-colored linens and rarely seen paint colors.

The couple told Domino, “We’re drawn to colors that shift drastically with the light.” The public spaces are painted white to further enhance the naturally well-lit rooms. A center hall separates the public spaces from the bedrooms and renovated bathrooms. The couple creates a playful yet moody feeling in this area of the house by choosing a subtle pink tone for one of the bedrooms that looks similar to the color they used to revive an 18th-century farmhouse in upstate New York. Pieces from their line are placed throughout the dwelling, including Hoffman dining chairs, wicker-woven poufs, a Sarah Ellison-looking coffee table, and an array of organic wood cutting boards, bottle grinders, and potted plants placed on the marble kitchen countertops.
