HabHouse renovates architect Mims Jackson’s House in Studio City

Last year, the personal residence of architect Mims Jackson Jr caught the attention of Andreas Larsson, the chief design influence of HabHouse. With an impressive track record of revitalizing mid-century homes in Los Angeles, HabHouse gives the Jackson Mims residence in Studio City a new, playful, and minimal feel.

The three-bedroom, three-bath house sits at the top of a driveway on an elevated site selected by the architect for privacy and captivating vistas to the north and south. A carport with space for two cars leads to an entry terrace where a handsome facade showcases clean, crisp lines accentuated by a distinctive post and beam trellis.

Measuring 1,741 square feet, the single-story residence opens to a space filled with natural light through multiple windows and sliding glass doors. This allows a seamless connection to the outdoors and the numerous patios, gardens, and decks surrounding the house.

An eye-catching brick fireplace with a floor-to-ceiling hearth anchors the living room as a mitered glass corner window and spider leg beam frame the distant views. There’s an easy flow from room to room.

A muted color palette permeates throughout, with touches of muted tones accenting open shelving. “Central to this is a newly renovated kitchen hub with custom cabinetry, well-organized storage, top-of-line appliances, and vast countertop workspace.”

The primary suite sits at the front of the property, taking in Valley views. It has its own entrance and full bath. The other two bedrooms are located to the rear of the property, taking in hillside views. Both bedrooms access a sizeable view-facing deck overlooking the terraced rear yard areas.

While this HabHouse renovation sits in a private and serene setting at 11688 Laurelwood Drive, it has convenient access to Ventura Blvd. The boulevard offers a 13-mile stretch of restaurants “—among them mom n’ pops, a plethora of ethnic cuisines, casual and fast food chains, gastropubs, and finer dining restaurants.” It’s also within the boundaries of the award-winning Carpenter Community Charter School. Offered at $2,388,000.
