John Lautner’s Deutsch House

It is said for house collectors in Southern California, there is no better score than a John Lautner residence. After all, his modernist dwellings (think Chemosphere, Sheaths-Goldstein, and Silvertop) are among the most recognizable homes in Los Angeles.

The living room has a large glass window curtain.

His early work includes his personal residence in Silver Lake and the Deutsch House, a 1954 mid-century dwelling built for his bookkeeper and wife. Located at 7163 Macapa Dr in the Hollywood Hills, it’s a fine example of the innovation, use of natural materials, and indoor-outdoor living that Lautner is known for.
